Tata Harrier EV: India’s First AWD Electric SUV with 500 km Range
Tata Harrier EV a SUV is expected to launch in India in Mar 2025 with the expected price range of Rs. 24.00 – 28.00 Lakh. It is available in 3 variants. The Harrier EV is available in 3 colors.
The new images reveal the overall design of the Tata Harrier EV. The production model could have a design that stands close to what was shown on the Bharat Mobility Expo show car.  Similar horizontal slats can be seen on the EV grille, Bi-LED projector headlamps, sequential LED DRLs, full-width light bar and front LED fog lamps. A lot of styling cues are shared with the ICE Harrier.

This Tata Harrier EV will also come with Level 2 ADAS. Hardware for the same can be seen on the test mule. A LIDAR can be seen on the front bumper and there is a front windshield-mounted camera as well. This mule differs with its alloy wheel design from the previous sightings. Unlike the EV-spec wheels that were seen on the show car, the latest mule spotting reveals normal alloy wheels that are shod with R17 235/66 Apollo tyres.
What Should Be Expected On The Tata Harrier EV Spec?
The mule also had conventional door handles and not flush-type units. The production form will likely come with flush-type door handles. It will also have thick cladding, Blacked-out pillars and ORVMs. The charging port will sit on the left, above the rear wheel. The rear design will mostly remain unchanged from that of the regular Harrier. The test mules also suggest the same. The connected LED tail lamp cluster will have a welcome and goodbye animation feature.
This is probably the first time that we get a look inside the cabin of Tata Harrier EV. The test mule seems to have a non-functional AC, as an external fan can be seen mounted on the roof. Most interior bits and equipment remain identical to those found on the ICE version. You can see horizontal air vents, a multi-function steering wheel, door trims and center console in the spy shots. The large 12.3 inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit also manages to catch our eyes.
Courtesy of its more premium proposition and placement, the Harrier EV will get additional features compared to the regular Harrier. There will be more safety equipment as well. The outgoing Harrier diesel offers ADAS features such as forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change alert, rear collision warning and rear cross-traffic alert. The EV might come with more.
The Harrier EV’s platform gets a floor-mounted battery pack, that is hoped to deliver up to 500 km in range. It could feature battery capacities of up to 60-80 kWh. There will be support for DC fast charging as well.

Tata’s First AWD Model
The Tata Harrier EV will feature a dual-motor setup, featuring one on each axle. One of the previous spy shots had confirmed the presence of a rear motor. This means that the production-spec SUV will feature AWD and probably RWD on the two wheel drive version. It will become the first Tata vehicle to get AWD.
Tata Motors is likely to introduce the Tata Harrier EV with AWD configuration suggested latest leak, initially reported Autocar India. According to the leaked patent design it has come to fore that there will be introduction of terrain modes for Tata SUVs. The introduction of AWD/4WD will be a huge upgrade when it comes to the Tata SUVs.
The leaked suggest that the upcoming Tata SUVs starting from Tata Harrier EV will get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) or a 4Ă—4 configuration. The patent reveals that there will be a rotary knob that offers seven different modes and that include Snow, Sand and Gravel, or even a Custom mode. Readers should not confuse the terrain modes with different drive modes i.e. Eco, City, Sport) that are already offered on the Nexon, Curvv, Harrier and Safari. All the above four SUVs are offered with front-wheel-drive configuration.
Tata Motors had earlier revealed that the ATLAS platform that is offered on the Curvv can be adjusted to offer 4Ă—4 configuration. Â The next-gen Nexon will get the ATLAS platform but it is unlikely to get AWD. The same architecture will be offered on the Tata Harrier EV and Sierra and they will get AWD system.
Even though Tata Motors mostly offers SUVs in its car line-up in India, there is a lack of 4WD or AWD. On the other hand, the Tata Motors’ close rival Mahindra offers AWD/4×4 in its big SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700, Scorpio N, Thar, Thar Roxx etc.
