Details to know about That Roxx.
Skoda Auto India has revealed the name of its forthcoming compact SUV, the Skoda Kylaq. Positioned to compete with established models such as the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and whatever we’ll have in the list by next year, the Kylaq marks Skoda’s latest entry into India’s highly competitive compact SUV market.
Name Selection Process and Inspiration of skoda kylaq
The name Kylaq was selected from a shortlist that included options like Kymaq, Kyroq, Kariq, and Kwiq, with its inspiration drawn from Mount Kailash, a revered peak known for its cultural significance.
The name ‘Kylaq’ was chosen through the nationwide ‘Name Your Skoda’ campaign that received over 2 lakh entries with over 24,000 unique names. In the next phase, participants voted to select 10 names from a list of 15 entries. From this list, the winning name, which received the most votes and met all legal compliance criteria, was chosen.
Contest Winner and their rewards for skoda kylaq
The winner of the contest will be the first owner of the Skoda Kylaq when it hits the Indian roads. Another 10 winners will visit Skoda Auto in Prague with a tour of the Skoda Museum and the city. Winners will be announced today at 2 pm across Skoda Auto India’s social media channels.
In July 2024, Skoda released a second teaser image of the Kylaq, highlighting its rear design. The SUV’s design, including its L-shaped tail lights, broad wheel arches, and Skoda symbol across the tailgate, was shown in the teaser. There were also obvious additional design components, such roof rails and an integrated spoiler put on the top. This shared platform suggests that the Kylaq will feature several design elements and features familiar to these models.
Spy Shots Reveal Key Design Elements
In the spy shot, we can see the traditional Skoda grille with the spilt DRL and LED headlamps setup. Then we have a large air dam with a new bumper design. It looks like the compact SUV will miss out on fog lamps. Another notable thing is that this test mule doesn’t come with a sunroof. This a big mess if it doesn’t come on the production model. The rear tail lamp design is very similar to the Kushaq. We can see a tweaked bumper and sloping rear windshield. In the video, we can see sporty acceleration from the SUV, but that is expected being a Skoda car.
Although detailed specifications have not yet been released, the car is expected to get advanced safety features, and the latest in-car technology like a 360-degree parking camera. The Skoda Kylaq is expected to offer more features than what is offered by Skoda Kushaq, which sits in a segment above. The SUV is likely to be positioned as a versatile option suitable for both urban driving and longer trips.
Potential Powertrains and Market Strategy
Skoda may decide to use the same 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine for its engine options. The car might also get the same transmission options as its elder sibling. The Kylaq is part of Skoda’s broader strategy to increase its footprint in the SUV market, which has seen significant growth. This new model will enter the competitive compact SUV segment. The car is expected to launch early next year, in the month of March.
The Kylaq is poised to be the most affordable vehicle in the brand’s portfolio upon its launch.
The launch of the Kylaq will mark Skoda’s return to India’s competitive sub-Rs 10 lakh passenger vehicle segment, a market the company has not been a part of since discontinuing the Rapid in 2021. The Kylaq will also be Skoda’s smallest offering in India since the Fabia hatchback.
